Getting Started

A Sphinx from Word document is a Word Document with the Sphinx from Word template applied to it. If you have a document, you can apply this template by (these instructions are for Word 2013 and 2016, you may need to adjust them for earlier/later versions):

  1. Download SphinxFromWord.dotm and save on your computer/server

    You can also download this document as an example.

  2. Enable the Developer tab:


    Under FileOptionsCustomize Ribbon, put a check-mark next to ‘Developer’ in right-hand column.

  3. On the Developer tab, select Document Template

  4. Using the ‘Attach…’ button, select Sphinx From Word.dotm


    We recommend that you check ‘Automatically update document styles’.

Note

Sphinx from Word uses document styles to indicate special features. A paragraph formatted with the Title style, the document structure for the Table of Contents is constructed from the Heading n styles.
Look out for how other special styles are used to tell Sphinx from Word what to do.
